A late-night shooting in the Bronzeville neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side left four young boys injured on Saturday, raising renewed concerns about community safety.
According to the Chicago Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire around 9:39 p.m. in the 4500 block of South Prairie Avenue. Upon arrival, authorities discovered four male victims—ranging in age from 12 to 14—injured and located near one another on the street.
Preliminary findings indicate the boys were standing outside together when an unidentified gunman approached and opened fire, striking all four victims before fleeing the scene.
Emergency responders quickly transported the injured:
- Three victims were taken to Comer Children’s Hospital
- A 12-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and is in good condition
- A 13-year-old boy sustained a foot injury and is also in good condition
- A 14-year-old boy suffered a graze wound to the back and is listed in fair condition
- A fourth victim, a 13-year-old boy, was transported to Stroger Hospital, where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the leg and is reported to be in good condition
Authorities have not released a description of the suspect, and no motive has been confirmed at this time. Detectives are actively investigating, reviewing ballistic evidence and seeking surveillance footage from nearby homes and buildings.
The shooting has sparked concern among residents in Bronzeville and the broader Grand Boulevard area, particularly given the young age of the victims and the residential setting of the attack. Community leaders are urging increased awareness, especially during nighttime hours, and encouraging families to take precautions while the investigation remains ongoing.
Police continue to ask anyone with information to come forward as efforts intensify to identify the individual responsible.
